Abstract

L'approche par les capabilités offre une cadre d'analyse particulièrement bien adapté pour mesurer la pauvreté : au-delà des conditions de vie des individus, le bien-être capabiliste est en effet sensible à leur capacité de conversion des ressources disponibles, mais aussi à l'éventail des opportunités de vie qui leur sont accessibles et à leur liberté de choix. Il rompt également avec la conception subjective du bien-être couramment utilisée en économie et qui peut conduire à sous-estimer la pauvreté si les personnes pauvres se résignent à leurs conditions difficiles. Dans cet article, nous proposons un exemple critique de mise en œuvre pratique de l'approche par les capabilités pour mesurer la pauvreté pour les communes de l'aire urbaine de Paris en 2010.
