Abstract

Cet article s'intéresse aux universités françaises et aborde le métier d'enseignant-chercheur dans l'enseignement supérieur, à travers le concept de plafonnement de carrière. Ainsi, il montre à l'appui d'une étude empirique quantitative auprès de 401 enseignants-chercheurs issus des sections CNU 01 à 06 que ces derniers s'estiment majoritairement plafonnés en termes structurels, bien qu'ils soient peu plafonnés en termes de contenu. Dit autrement, ils aiment leur métier et ne s'ennuient pas, mais ont peu d'espérance de progression de carrière. Cela a des conséquences sur leur implication organisationnelle et professionnelle, ainsi que sur leur satisfaction au travail et leur intention de quitter l'organisation. Notamment, cet article permet de mettre en lumière l'existence de différents profils d'enseignants-chercheurs, en fonction de leur degré de plafonnement. Il montre également que plus les enseignants-chercheurs sont plafonnés, moins ils sont satisfaits de leur travail et plus ils ont l'intention de quitter l'institution à laquelle ils appartiennent. Les liens entre plafonnement et implication organisationnelle et professionnelle sont quant à eux plus complexes à analyser dans le cadre des sections CNU étudiées.
