Abstract

La capacité à percevoir et anticiper le risque de défaillance est un défi majeur à relever pour bon nombre de PME. En s'appuyant sur des travaux sur la défaillance d'entreprise et des travaux mettant en avant la subjectivité du jugement d'un risque et les biais inhérents à toute évaluation d'un risque, cette réflexion questionne les évaluations que font les dirigeants de PME à propos du risque de défaillance de leur entreprise. Sur un échantillon de plus de 1000 entreprises, il est distingué quatre groupes d'entreprises selon qu'elles perçoivent à tort ou à raison un risque de défaillance. Ces quatre groupes d'entreprises font ensuite l'objet d'une caractérisation afin de repérer ce qui peut fonder la surestimation, la sous-estimation ou le déni du risque de défaillance par le dirigeant. Il est questionné à cette occasion la présence ou non de certains biais, notamment le biais de surconfiance chez les dirigeants de PME.
