Abstract

This paper addresses the topic of positive externalities due to clusters. We shall focus in particular on logistics activities concentration, which is taken into account in planning policies through logistics centers. In order to analyse the concentrations in question, a statistical comparison of 733 logistics establishments is performed, some of which are located in such centres, others outside. The results of the analysis show that the impacts of this form of concentration contradict those reported in the literature on clusters. Indeed, our statistical results show that logistics establishments located in logistics centres have the same labour productivity as, and half the capital productivity of, logistics establishments located outside.
