Abstract

Au cours d'une enquête par sondage représentatif, il était demandé aux interviewés de se situer au sein de trois échelles de statuts (allant chaque fois de 1 à 10) en notant ce qu'ils considéreraient être leur position à la fin de leurs études, aujourd'hui, ainsi que celle qui serait juste selon eux. Il en ressort que plus la mobilité sociale est ressentie comme faible, plus l'écart entre le statut social jugé juste et celui d'aujourd'hui a tendance à être important. Cette attente d'une position juste plus élevée est d'autant plus forte que l'on s'estime bas dans la hiérarchie sociale. L'autoposition actuelle a d'ailleurs sur la frustration sociale un effet plus important que celui de la mobilité sociale. Si les catégories populaires ressentent davantage de frustration, c'est surtout en raison de l'inégalité des chances qu'elles dénoncent. Les enquêtés attendent donc plus d'égalité des chances mais aussi des places.
