Abstract

België, de bakermat van Europa en van het surrealisme, blijft verbazen. Het is een van de welvarendste landen ter wereld, maar de federale staat is een onuitputtelijke bron van hervormingen, misverstanden en tegenstellingen. Van bij het ontstaan van België staat de kunst van het compromis er hoog in het vaandel, maar dat compromis werd tot het uiterste getest tijdens de 540 dagen tellende regeringscrisis. België begrijpen is een essentieel boek voor al wie een inzicht wil krijgen in hoe dit land werkt en wat er op het spel staat. De auteurs geven een helder, realistisch beeld van hoe België politiek, sociaal, cultureel en institutioneel in elkaar zit, met zijn gewesten en gemeenschappen en zijn hoofdstad, Brussel.België begrijpen is geschreven door ruim twintig vooraanstaande Franstalige en Nederlandstalige wetenschappers. Met bijdragen van onder anderen Vincent de Coorebyter, Els Witte, Marc Swyngedouw, Pierre Pestieau, Marco Martiniello, Claude Javeau en Francis Delpérée. Het boek is samengesteld door Astrid von Busekist; politicoloog Carl Devos (Universiteit Gent) schrijft een inleiding bij het boek. (Résumé éditeur)
