Abstract

Based on the concept of collective competence as theorized by the work of researchers from France and Québec, this article proposes to extend and complete them by using the international works in organizational communication as well as those from the practice turn in organizations. On this basis, the paper identifies and discusses new research directions to better understand how collective competence is produced, processed and can be better supported in organizations. Finally, this review article offers an integrative definition of the notion of collective competence, identifies concrete directions for future research and methodological implications, and finally emphasizes the importance of such an approach for studying the collective competence at different levels of organizations.
