Abstract

De nombreux propriétaires-dirigeants proches de la retraite, malgré l'existence de successeurs potentiels dans la famille, préfèrent transmettre l'entreprise à un tiers. Cet article concerne la présentation des résultats d'une étude exploratoire basée sur une enquête réalisée en région Bretagne auprès de 54 propriétaires-dirigeants de 55 ans ou plus, à la tête de PME de 10 à 100 salariés dans les secteurs de l'industrie et de la construction, souhaitant transmettre leur entreprise à des tiers et ayant au moins un enfant adulte. Nous avons identifié cinq axes principaux concernant la réflexion des futurs cédants sur la transmission : l'intérêt de l'activité pour la nouvelle génération, l'emplacement géographique comme un frein à la succession souhaitée, la recherche de compétences techniques chez les repreneurs, l'opportunité financière et la sensibilité à l'intérêt des successeurs potentiels. L'analyse typologique a fait émerger cinq groupes d'individus avec des comportements spécifiques. Notre objectif était de comprendre leur préférence pour la transmission à un tiers et d'étudier leur positionnement par rapport à une éventuelle reprise familiale. Cette étude a été réalisée dans le cadre de la thèse de l'auteur (« Transmission non familiale des PME industrielles : contribution à la compréhension », 2014) dont le Directeur de recherche était le Professeur Christian Cadiou.
