Abstract

During the recent decades, most industrialised countries have reformed their territorial authorities according to different terms and giving various results. This paper deals with the progressive reform of the territorial governance started during the sixties within Quebec, Canada. The evolution of four main components are illustrated with data, that are local authorities, poles of development, regions and MRC communities (regional municipalities of comties). Nowadays, we can observe the progress and limits of this reform. Our analysis underlines what is currently at stake with the Quebec reform, specifically with the emergence of a new relevant form of territory from contemporary economic geography.
