Abstract

The Algerian territory does not suffer from a lack of resources, but rather from their poor exploitation. The Algerian date is one of its quality local products, too little valued, which suffers from malfunction all along its value chain. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that the potential of the Algerian date can fiercely challenge other dates. This can be justified by the place occupied by Deglet Nour date in local consumption habits and its growing importance on the global market of dates. A valorisation process has been initiated but not yet completed. If this valorisation was badly conducted so far, it is mainly due to a deficit in local adhesion and also because of problems in the planning of marketing/communication activities.
