Abstract

En contrepoint de certaines approches privilégiant spécialisation et concurrence, différents auteurs ont travaillé à une approche mésoéconomique, et montré que secteurs et territoires constituent les espaces pertinents sur la base desquels émergent de nouvelles règles, pratiques, et institutions (du Tertre et Laurent, 2008). Pour reprendre la caractérisation proposée par Chavance (2007), il s'agit de se situer « entre l'histoire longue et la conjoncture immédiate » (p. 83) pour comprendre les institutions et le changement institutionnel à un niveau « mésoéconomique et mésohistorique » (p. 85). Plutôt que de traiter l'ensemble des situations historiques, géographiques et sectorielles au prisme de l'attractivité et de la compétitivité, ces approches mésoéconomiques invitent à saisir les spécificités en comprenant les changements institutionnels qui façonnent les comportements des acteurs.
