L’importance de la comptabilité au XIXème siècle et au début du XXième siècle en France ou « la prédominance du chiffre » dans la gestion

Abstract

La comptabilité prend rapidement son envol en France avec la révolution industrielle, en ce sens qu'elle sera théorisée, pratiquée et enseignée de plus en plus intensément à partir du début du XIXième siècle. A l'inverse, les pratiques de management et de marketing seront plus lentes à se développer, ne naissant finalement vraiment que dans les trente premières années du XXIème siècle. La précocité de cette matière et technique de gestion par essence chiffrée sur les autres devait être interrogée, et nous avons essayé de donner trois explications à ce développement précoce de la comptabilité : le caractère naturel et évident du chiffre, les caractéristiques des entreprises des deux premières révolutions industrielles, et enfin les difficultés à théoriser et enseigner des matières basées sur des savoirs plus implicites que la comptabilité.
