Abstract

Les « médias sociaux » constituent un phénomène aussi difficile à appréhender dans ses fonctionnalités et usages que dans son histoire. Cet article propose de les interroger sous l'angle de la valeur heuristique de leur définition, de la cohérence historique du regroupement de plateformes qu'elle propose et de la réalité des possibilités de participation qu'elle postule. Il révèle ainsi les enjeux économiques qu'une focalisation sur la participation des internautes masque et propose une représentation plus complexe des différentes configurations sociotechniques émergeant dans le Web du XXIe siècle.
