Abstract

L'engouement actuel pour le développement durable fait ressurgir la responsabilité sociétale à un moment où la création de valeur actionnariale atteint un paroxysme. Bien que les entreprises multinationales prônent, d'un côté, ce modèle actionnarial, elles revendiquent, de l'autre, l'intégration du développement durable dans leur stratégie. Comment ces exigences pourtant paradoxales se traduisent-elles dans la gestion de l'entreprise ? Quelles pratiques managériales mettent-elles en œuvre pour s'attaquer concrètement à ce projet de société ? A quelle forme de contrôle cela donne-t-il naissance ? L'auteur s'efforce de répondre à ces questions en mobilisant un ensemble de référentiels théoriques et en montrant concrètement à partir d'études de cas menées dans deux entreprises pionnières, Lafarge et Danone, le processus qui conduit à la mise en place de nouveaux instruments chargés de relever les défis de la crise écologique actuelle. Cette analyse offre des clés pour comprendre comment le projet de développement durable transforme les grandes organisations en leur imposant de nouveaux modèles de management compatibles avec les enjeux écologiques.
