Abstract

Le 11 mars 2011, un tremblement de terre d'une très grande intensité s'est produit au large des côtes nord-est du Japon, déclenchant un tsunami ravageur et un accident nucléaire. La puissance du séisme, de magnitude 9, a libéré une quantité d'énergie cinquante fois supérieure à celle de du tremblement de terre de Kobé, qui avait emporté 6 434 vies humaines le 17 janvier 1995. Cette fois, le dernier bilan fait état de plus de 27 000 morts ou disparus, auxquels s'ajoutent quelques 450 000 sans abris. La zone touchée par le séisme représente 4 % du PIB japonais. Le séisme et le tsunami ont déclenché un accident nucléaire à la centrale de Fukushima Daiichi, donnant lieu à des fuites radioactives dans l'atmosphère et dans l'océan pacifique. Un nouveau séisme de magnitude 7,4 a eu lieu le 7 avril, entraînant de nouvelles coupures de courant mais pas de raz-de-marée (...).
