Royaume-Uni : la croissance fait de la résistance

Abstract

Le PIB britannique a augmenté de 3 % en 2007. La croissance a légèrement ralenti au second semestre mais a atteint 2,8 % en glissement sur un an au quatrième trimestre, soit nettement plus que dans la zone euro (1,8 %) et aux États-Unis (2,5 %) en dépit de taux d'intérêt réels de court terme plus élevés et d'un poids relativement important du secteur financier dans l'économie. Les indicateurs conjoncturels disponibles au début de ce printemps suggèrent que la crise financière n'a jusqu'ici guère eu d'impact sur l'économie réelle. L'inflation, qui reste modérée, est cependant comme ailleurs dans le monde en train d'accélérer : elle est passée de 1,8 % seulement en septembre dernier à 2,5 % en février (contre 3,2 % dans la zone euro et 4,1 % aux États-Unis).
