Abstract

De nombreuses femmes suspendent ou réduisent leur activité professionnelle à l'occasion de la naissance d'un enfant. L'objet de cet article est d'analyser les conséquences financières de ces choix sur le niveau de vie de la famille, au moment de la naissance, mais aussi ultérieurement, jusqu'à la retraite. Sur la base de cas types, une analyse sur l'ensemble d'un cycle de vie fictif est réalisée. Elle démontre, d'une part, que, hors toute conséquence sur la carrière, les périodes d'interruptions ou réductions d'activité sont bien compensées par le système de protection sociale, notamment par le complément de libre choix d'activité, quels que soient les revenus du ménage. En revanche, dans les cas fréquents où elles sont suivies de chômage, de temps partiel ou d'une baisse relative du salaire, l'impact sur le niveau de revenu est plus sensible
