Abstract

The laws of July 10, 1987, and February 11, 2005, on the integration of people with disabilities require a quota of 6% of the workforce and a cash contribution to pay for non-compliance with this quota. Ewick and Silbey (1998) articulate three schemas of legal consciousness : before the law, with the law and against the law. Considering integration of people with disabilities, Point et al. (2010) distinguish two attitudes : a " reactive " attitude which only aims to address the legal obligation, and a " proactive " attitude which is to implement an effective disability policy. Based on semi-directive interviews conducted with 22 directors of human resources and 8 disability project leaders, our study refines the typology of human resource managers'behaviors in their relation to the legal constraint and shows that a comprehensive knowledge of the law can help to be proactive.
