Abstract

The manager's implication in the HRM practices is important in the organizations. In the same time, the practices of training have changed and the part of computer based training has increased. When the training is done on the working station, several researchers showed that the learning environment may have an impact on the effectiveness of the training activity. However, this environment is partly the result of the behaviour of the manager. Based on the learner's point of view, the aim of this paper is to question the link between the manager's implication in the training activity and its effectiveness when the training is done using an e-learning system on the working station. The study carried out within a large French company deals with online training to the Pack Office® followed from the working station. After having carried out a quantitative study via a questionnaire to 113 adult learners, qualitative interviews have been conducted. The analysis shows that learners integrate the manager's attitude in the disruptions encountered. These results have several implications on the role of the manager: if his implication is necessary upstream and downstream of training, he plays also a crucial role during the training period when a computer based training is performed from the working station.
