Abstract

Wall Street, le temple de la Finance... Et de la spéculation. Jacques Gravereau, grand spécialiste du monde asiatique, et Jacques Traustman, ancien banquier d'affaires, en révèlent toute la violence, et racontent comment ce lieu de financement est devenu le centre du monde. Là où se font, et se défont, les grands empires. Là où se déchaînent les spéculations les plus aventureuses. On y croise d'honorables présidents de banque, des escrocs, des gouverneurs de Banque centrale apeurés, des traders à moitié fous. Du krach de 1907, où John Pierpont Morgan évitera le pire en obligeant les uns et les autres à se refinancer à celui de 1929 où la confiance s'est écroulée en trois jours, on navigue en eaux troubles. On suit les raids boursiers, les maquillages de comptes, les sauvetages inespérés, les mariages souvent instables entre banques ou entre... familles. De J.P. Morgan à Goldman Sachs, Lazard, Merill Lynch, on pénètre au coeur de la haute finance. C'est un voyage d'actualité dans la grande et la petite Histoire. Et un document inquiétant sur ce monstre qu'est aujourd'hui Wall Street et son influence sur l'économie moderne.
