Abstract

Over the last thirty year, the indicators used to characterise the diversification strategy have been based on the sectorial diversity of the business portfolio. However, this method of classification, based on positioning, proves inadequate in reflecting the firm's intent to develop the links between activities, a defining element of the diversification strategy. This points to the need for taking into consideration the organisational structure as an empirical basis for a measurement of the diversification strategy.
