La convergence européenne: une approche multidimensionnelle

Abstract

L'objet de cet article est d'étudier les processus de convergence nominale et réelle dans les pays de l'Union européenne. Des méthodes de la statistique exploratoire multidimensionnelle sont employées afin de réaliser des regroupements de pays, d'identifier des similitudes ou des dissemblances entre pays relativement à un ensemble de critères. La convergence nominale est manifeste sur la période 1997-2005 et les performances des pays non-membres de la zone euro n'apparaissent pas significativement différentes de celles des pays membres de la zone euro relativement aux critères de convergence de Maastricht. La classification établie à partir d'un ensemble d'indicateurs de convergence réelle et structurelle atteste de l'existence d'une Europe à deux vitesses.
