Abstract

Confrontée à la croissance urbaine, l'agriculture proche des villes revêt diverses formes. Elle peut être urbaine et périurbaine, structurée ou informelle. Ces agricultures créent des emplois et fournissent des produits alimentaires pour une population urbaine qui vit souvent dans des conditions précaires. Elles contribuent à la création de villes durables par la réalisation d'espaces verts, tels que des parcs, des jardins, des espaces horticoles et des aires de drainage. Mais ces agricultures sont aussi une source de nuisances et de risques pour l'environnement ou la santé humaine. Au-delà de la question de la place de l'agriculture dans la ville, d'autres questions se posent : la pollution de l'eau, l'alimentation ou le recyclage des déchets domestiques ou industriels, et la qualité sanitaire des produits.
