Abstract
Among the other measures designed to help innovative new companies, government-funded incubation programmes have played a predominant role since 1999. They involve various forms of assistance to the creators of new companies over a period of one to two years. The aim of this research is to understand how entrepreneurs acquire the managerial skills needed to create and develop a new company. To this end, qualitative analysis will be used to highlight the most important aspects of the incubator's role. Our research shows that certain stages of the assistance programme are more useful than others in the entrepreneur's learning process. We will show that evaluation, in particular, is a key element allowing the incubator to help the new company develop and determining what skills are acquired by the entrepreneur.
