Abstract

La recherche "confinée" se définit comme une activité de recherche dans laquelle les chercheurs s'adressent aux chercheurs et sont recrutés, évalués et promus par leurs pairs exclusivement. Vivant en vase clos, il arrive qu'ils ne prennent pas l'exacte mesure des enjeux qui préoccupent leurs contemporains, ce qui provoque parfois l'indignation de ces derniers : les familles des myopathes se révoltent contre le désintérêt du monde médical pour leur maladie ; les victimes du sida contre les méthodes de la recherche clinique ; les habitants des sites d'enfouissement des déchets nucléaires contre des prises de décision trop rapides. Depuis quelques années, on voit des "groupes concernés" s'organiser pour s'approprier les termes et les enjeux de la recherche et pouvoir dialoguer avec les scientifiques ; c'est ce qu'on peut appeler la recherche "de plein air". Ce dialogue s'avère souvent d'une fécondité inattendue, mais certains chercheurs restent sceptiques : la science ouverte aux profanes reste-t-elle la science ?
