Abstract

Les financements bancaires gardent une place prépondérante dans les économies avancées. L'essor des marchés de capitaux, parfois considérés comme concurrents des banques, n'a pas réduit le rôle des banques. Les marchés ont en effet besoin d'intermédiaires qui, par leur nombreuses opérations d'achats et de ventes, assurent leur liquidité. Mais l'association entre banques et marché a engendré un certain nombre d'effets pervers : les banques ont pris des risques excessifs, ont créé de nouveaux produits structurés et ensuite transféré ces risques sur les marchés à des investisseurs. En menant ces opérations à haut rendement, les banques ont délaissé leur fonction traditionnelle de banque de détail au services des entreprises et des particuliers. Paradoxalement, c'est au moment où les banques renouent avec leur mission traditionnelle que leur contribution au financement de l'économie parait la plus menacée.
