Abstract

La résurgence des inégalités depuis les années 1980, particulièrement au sein des pays anglo-saxons, a remis en cause la courbe de Kuznets. Les inégalités salariales jouent un rôle primordial, avec pour causes un progrès technique biaisé en faveur du travail qualifié, la mondialisation et un ensemble de facteurs institutionnels tels que l'érosion des syndicats ou la baisse des taux marginaux supérieurs de l'impôt sur le revenu. Plusieurs effets négatifs des inégalités sur la croissance (relations sociales conflictuelles et instabilité politique, demande de redistribution, allocation inefficace des ressources dans le cadre de marchés de capitaux imparfaits) et sa stabilité (tendance à l'endettement des couches les moins favorisées) ont été soulignés.
