Abstract

The crisis have violently destabilized the economic and financial order and made two collateral victims, professional economists and economic analysis. In effect they failed to forecast this cataclysm and to provide policies for a strong and sustainable growth. During the subsequent debates the fault of orthodoxy has been pointed out. In consequence the question of the determination of an alternative is of crucial importance, particularly in the field of public economics. The first part of the article is devoted to the question of the nature of orthodox economics. The second part deals with the conditions of the emergence of heterodoxy and with the French peculiarity. Finally, the article tries to explain the reasons why public economics have failed after its neoclassical methodological reorientation at the beginning of the seventies.
