L'ancrage statistique des identites: les minorites visibles dans le recensement canadien

Abstract

La presente communication constitue la premiere mouture d'une analyse dont l'objectif est de mettre en lumiere ce que l'on pourrait appeler le phenomene du durcissement statistique, c'est-a-dire le processus par lequel, a la suite d'un ensemble d'interventions (emergence de porte-parole, plaidoyers pour le defense d'un groupe, enquetes journalistiques ou savantes, ...) et de procedures de mise en forme (travail de definition, de decoupage, de construction de classes d'equivalence, standardisation de concepts et de questions, administration repetee d'enquetes, ...), des pehnomenes marques par le flou, l'equivoque et la multiplicite des jugements se voient conferer un degre d'univocite autorisant leur delimitation et leur denombrement.
