Abstract

O fenômeno das integrações regionais é aqui discutido, considerando-se desde os acordos de livre-comércio iniciais aos ambiciosos mega-acordos pretendidos nos últimos tempos. As dimensões da avaliação e da preocupação com os custos -fundamentais desde o início das cada vez mais complexas negociações- são particularmente enfatizadas. O texto é uma reflexão sobre o fenômeno, em muito baseada na experiência do autor e seus variados trabalhos no assunto. Ele conclui com breve visão da realidade presente e algumas alternativas, finalizando com o apoio a iniciativas mais simples e melhor focadas.
