Soledad y sobreutilización de recursos sanitarios: Evidencia basada en Europa

Abstract

La relación entre la soledad y el aumento de las visitas al médico es estadísticamente significativa en países donde los médicos de familia son el primer punto de contacto con el sistema sanitario. Las personas que experimentan soledad no deseada tienen, en promedio, 1,27 visitas más que sus homólogas no solas. Estos resultados sugieren que las personas solas podrían recurrir a los proveedores sanitarios no solo por razones médicas, sino también para obtener contacto social. Las políticas deberían priorizar las intervenciones sociales para reducir la soledad y mejorar el bienestar de las personas mayores.
