Abstract

Bt Brinjal is being developed in India by Mahyco [Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company] and the company wants to take up large scale field trials with the permission of the regulatory authority, GEAC. No GM Brinjal has been released for an advanced stage of field trials in open conditions anywhere in the world. This is the first time that GEAC would be giving permission for large scale open trials for a food crop in India. This Briefing Paper provides some facts on Bt Brinjal.
