The Potential of Media: Dialogue, Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation

Abstract

The media has a demonstrated ability in fostering mutual understanding by communicating across divides, thus bringing competing narratives together into a shared story. This ambivalence presents an opportunity to build media that increases interaction and highlights interdependences. To realize this potential, what is needed at the most basic level is an open space where ideas can flourish and be debated democratically.
