Abstract

India is world’s fastest growing economy today in the world. How India uses its energy resources has become an important issue that India should consider. According to World Bank estimates India’s 35% population lives below poverty line and does not have access to basic amenities. This is one of the major challenges before India as far as energy consumption it concerned. The wide gap between urban and rural India make the rural people to use the traditional forms of energy resources like fuel wood and animal waste. These sources negatively affect the health of women and children who are exposed to it. Policy initiatives of Indian government focus to meet the challenges and trying to enhance renewable energy forms.
