Abstract

This study aims to identify the trend and disparity in development in the education sector at the district level; examine the factors that led to this inter district variation in education sector development; and, delineate the districts on the basis of the homogenous pattern of development as part of regionalisation. The paper examines the nature and trend of the disparity in the development of education sector facilities over the period 1970-71 to 2000-01. The analysis reveals that the disparity in development in this sector is mainly due to the skewed availability of higher and technical education. The distance between the bottom and top ranked districts has widened recently. although the development disparity in education sector in Kerala has not been so extreme in any point of time.
