Best Practices in Regulation of Private Education

Abstract

Current paper aims to understand how the governments in different parts of the world have leveraged upon the private sector to achieve specific educational goals. The idea here is not to recommend one model above the other but to simply look at some of best practices which can direct us towards right policy measures for constructive engagement of the private sector in school education. The study presented here examines three cases of government regulation of private education, namely: 1) Regulation of Hagwon/supplemental education centres in South Korea, 2) Per-child funding model in the Netherlands 3) The Punjab Education Foundation in Pakistan.
