Good, Better, Best! About Optimization in Public Transport

Abstract

In het openbaar vervoer is de afgelopen decennia optimalisatie vooral succesvol toegepast bij tactische of operationele planningsproblemen. Het doel was daarbij vooral het reduceren van kosten. Dit doel zal ook de komende jaren belangrijk blijven. In deze oratie zal dan ook ingegaan worden op het vinden van de “beste” planning. Een ander belangrijk aandachtsgebied binnen het openbaar vervoer is het verbeteren van de service aan de reiziger. In het bijzonder zal in deze oratie worden ingegaan op het verbeteren van de betrouwbaarheid van de treinreis. Vertragingen zijn immers één van de grootste ergernissen van de reiziger. Door “goed” gebruik te maken van optimalisatie kan ook op dit punt het openbaar vervoer “beter” worden.
