Abstract

Although the literature about economic growth began to boom in the 1990s, this has not meant that a consensus has been reached about recommendations, much less in the view of the Mexican public. The aim of this article is to analyze different countries' growth experiences, particularly in the second half of the twentieth century, to underline the conditions without which sustained economic growth was not possible. An additional aim is to hold the discussion in a sufficiently broad context to be able to trascend the schools of economics that participate in the Mexican and Latin American sphere. This is the only way that it will be possible to have a discussion that will allow for the consensuses essential for growth itself.
