Comparaciones Internacionales de la Dotación de Profesionales y la Posición Relativa Chilena (International comparisons of teacher supply and the relative situation in Chile)

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es aportar evidencia comparativa internacional para contribuir a dilucidar el tópico sobre la existencia de un déficit o superávit de profesionales (y técnicos) en Chile. Si bien el aspecto cuantitativo de la dotación de profesionales (y técnicos) es relevante, uno de los resultados centrales de este artículo plantea que el foco central para la competitividad de Chile en un mundo globalizado está asociado al nivel cualitativo (relativo) de los profesionales (y técnicos) chilenos; en este sentido, los resultados observados son preocupantes. La conclusión central revela que Chile tiene una dotación relativamente baja de profesionales (y técnicos), específicamente cuando se controla por el nivel de ingreso per cápita de los países. Además los profesionales (y técnicos) chilenos exhiben un pobre desempeño en comparación a los profesionales (y técnicos) de otros países (principalmente países desarrollados) respecto a su nivel de comprensión para desempeñarse en la “sociedad de la información y el conocimiento”.
