Abstract

This paper uses an applied general equilibrium model to assess the effects on the viability of the Spanish social security system of changes in demographics, focusing on the balanced growth path. First we suppose that the population growth rate is zero, then we simulate the effects of several alternative policies: holding constant the tax rate, holding constant the initial level of the per capita pension and delaying the retirement age.
