Indicadores sociales básicos de la subregión norte de América Latina y el Caribe

Abstract

La presente edición del bienio 2014-2015 de los Indicadores sociales básicos de la Subregión Norte de América Latina y el Caribe tiene como propósito proveer información oportuna y confiable sobre las variables demográficas, sociales, socioeconómicas y de índole transversal que se consideran de mayor representatividad para mostrar la realidad y las tendencias sociales de los 10 países que integran esta subregión: Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haití, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá y la República Dominicana. Desde una perspectiva temática sectorial del desarrollo social, los indicadores sociales básicos resumen la situación actual y las tendencias de los países en términos de los aspectos demográficos (grupos poblacionales y dinámicas demográficas), sociales (pobreza, educación, salud, vivienda y protección social), socioeconómicos (desigualdad, empleo, acceso a tecnología y gasto público) y de temas transversales (género, cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio y del desarrollo humano). Dicha información permite generar un diagnóstico de las realidades sociales e identificar los aspectos de mayor rezago o avance, permitiendo a tomadores de decisión y hacedores de política pública planificar acciones y enfocar esfuerzos y recursos para el cierre de brechas sociales, tarea que toma particular importancia ante el inminente inicio de la Agenda ODS.
