Subregión Norte de América Latina y el Caribe: información del sector agropecuario, 2000-2010

Abstract

La Unidad de Desarrollo Agrícola de la Sede Subregional de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) en México ha reunido en el presente volumen información sobre las tendencias alimentarias y el sector agropecuario para el período 2000-2010. Los países estudiados son: Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haití, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá y República Dominicana. Con la difusión de este material se responde a la demanda de información, con lo que la CEPAL se suma al esfuerzo de otros organismos regionales e instituciones internacionales para facilitar datos recientes y desagregados sobre la evolución del sector agropecuario y otras variables macroeconómicas relacionadas con éste. Así, las estadísticas contribuyen a: • Elaborar diagnósticos a nivel nacional y regional de la evolución del sector agropecuario. • Formular políticas de desarrollo agropecuario y estrategias nacionales. • Preparar investigaciones socioeconómicas específicas del sector agropecuario. • Facilitar la toma de decisiones por parte de los sectores público y privado. Las principales fuentes que sirvieron para preparar las series fueron las estadísticas y los estudios oficiales de los países, en especial los que no son proporcionados por los ministerios de agricultura y ganadería, institutos de estadística, institutos de pesca, institutos de bosques y los bancos centrales. En algunos casos, los datos se complementaron con información proveniente de diversos documentos de la propia CEPAL, la FAO, el CELADE, la SIECA, el PNUD y, en materia de precios en diferentes mercados, del FMI, el Banco Mundial, la UNCTAD y el CORECA.
