Desempeño en el comercio exterior de Centroamérica y el Caribe

Abstract

El documento analiza algunas de las principales características de las economías de Centroamérica y el Caribe. Analiza también por medio de indicadores comerciales la forma diferente en que las fluctuaciones de la economía mundial afectan a este grupo de países en relación con las economías de mayor tamaño de la región. Asimismo, se realiza un análisis estadístico sobre la especialización productiva de los países y las políticas que llevan a cabo para disminuir la vulnerabilidad de la región. Dicha especialización productiva, conlleva una vulnerabilidad reflejada en las importaciones de productos básicos necesarios para la subsistencia, por lo que se estudia detalladamente la balanza comercial de bienes y servicios y puntualmente la de alimentos y combustibles. En el capítulo final se presentan algunas conclusiones preliminares y recomendaciones de política.
