Panamá: evolución económica durante 2005 y perspectivas para 2006

Abstract

1. Rasgos generales de la evolución reciente La economía panameña en 2005 continuó presentando un crecimiento alto (6,4%), en un contexto de condiciones externas favorables y una demanda interna dinámica. Así, el promedio de crecimiento en los últimos tres años alcanzó 6%. El ingreso nacional bruto mostró una variación de 8,4%, y el producto interno bruto (PIB) por habitante registró una expansión de 4,5%. La tasa de desempleo se redujo dos puntos porcentuales, hasta 9,8%. Por su parte, el déficit fiscal descendió de 4,9% del PIB en 2004 a 2,5% en 2005. También disminuyó el déficit externo y se ubicó en el equivalente de 5,3% del PIB, mientras que la inflación a diciembre se elevó a 3,4%, una cifra más alta de lo habitual debido al alza tan pronunciada de los precios internacionales de petróleo.
