El Salvador: evolución económica durante 2001

Abstract

1. Rasgos generales de la evolución reciente En 2001 continuó la desaceleración de la economía salvadoreña. Así, el producto interno bruto (PIB) sólo aumentó 1.8%, frente a 2.2% del año anterior, por lo que la participación por habitante prácticamente no creció por segundo año consecutivo. En la coyuntura de 2001 confluyeron diversos factores desfavorables. La adversa situación de la economía estadounidense se tradujo en un debilitamiento de las exportaciones del sector maquilador y una drástica caída de los precios internacionales del café, que deterioraron los términos del intercambio.
