Abstract

Analisis de los factores mas importantes que dan cuenta de las diferencias observadas en la fecundidad en 8 paises de la region que han participado en las encuestas nacionales de fecundidad, dentro del marco del programa de la Encuesta Mundial de Fecundidad. Se analiza hasta que punto el tamano de la familia y los niveles de fecundidad en cada uno de los paises considerados son afectados por la estructura marital de la poblacion femenina fertil, y por los factores que determinan la formacion de diferentes tipos de union. El concepto de estructura marital incluye el status de la union asi como el numero de tales uniones. En este caso solo se considera el ultimo aspecto, ya que esta relacionado con la edad de la mujer al entrar en la primera union, y porque influye en la duracion de cada union, asi como en el tiempo total cubierto por todas las uniones. Los 8 paises considerados en este analisis: Colombia, Costa Rica, Republica Dominicana, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Jamaica y Guyana.
