The demographic situation in Haiti

Abstract

Se realizan estimaciones demograficas basicas para Haiti, utilizando informacion de los censos de 1950 y 1971, asi como de una Encuesta Demografica levantada en 1973 y del informe de una mision conjunta CEPAL/CELADE, realizada en 1976. Se concluye que el nivel de informacion sobre los parametros demograficos basicos de Haiti es quizas el mas pobre dentro de los paises del Caribe y de la America Latina, pero no tanto como la de los paises del Africa Tropical. Con respecto a la mortalidad, se observa una mayor deficiencia, siendo lamentable que no se haya aprovechado la Encuesta Mundial de Fecundidad para incluir mas preguntas sobre este topico. Sin embargo, esa encuesta permitira conocer en mucho major forma y amplitud lo relacionado con la fecundidad en Haiti
