Medicion de la pobreza y sus diferentes niveles en Costa Rica

Abstract

La principal fuente de datos es la Encuesta de Hogares por muestreo, efectuada entre 1966-1967 a nivel nacional, que consulta por separado la situacion de asalariados, empleadores y trabajadores por cuenta propia. La muestra comprende 9196 hogares que se descomponen en 2608 del area metropolitana, 1666 del resto urbano y 4922 del area rural. A partir de la informacion individual se construyo un registro de familia que permite trabajar con la misma como unidad de analisis, utilizando el ingreso como criterio central. La fijacion de los limites de la pobreza y sus distintos niveles se realizo en base al salario de subsistencia fijado por los organismos publicos de Costa Rica, distinguiendose 3 categorias: pobreza grave, indigencia y pobreza simple.
