Abstract

En Costa Rica se han realizado tres estudios sobre los ancianos, definidos como las personas de 60 años y más. En conjunto éstos proporcionan un perfil sociodemográfico de esta población a partir del censo de 1984, un panorama de las condiciones de salud y de atención médica elaborado en base a los registros del Seguro Social, y una caracterización del nivel de vida y actividades de los ancianos a partir de una encuesta ad hoc. El documento reúne los principales resultados de cada uno de los estudios, los que sirven de base para la formulación de un conjunto de recomendaciones específicas.
