Actividades desarrolladas por los programas de planificacion de la familia

Abstract

En 1976 la mayoria de los paises de America Latina cuenta con programas oficiales de planificacion familiar a cargo de los ministerios de salud e integrados a los programas materno- infantiles. El gestageno oral continua siendo el metodo mas usado (52.2 por ciento) aunque se observa un aumento en la insercion del DIU (35.9 por ciento de las usuarias) y en la esterilizacion femenina (2.8 por ciento) (p9-11). El numero de aceptantes es creciente en aquellos paises que estan expandiendo la atencion a un mayor numero de areas, pudiendo apreciarse, a traves de cuadros estadisticos, los distintos grados de cobertura de los programas en terminos del numero de usuarias activas. Se presentan las caracteristicas mas relevantes de estas, y, en este sentido, las cifras sobre hijos sobrevivientes y sobre hijos nacidos vivos permiten conjeturar que el aumento de las probabilidades de supervivencia de los hijos estaria produciendo un descenso en la fecundidad a traves de la incorporacion de las mujeres a programas anticonceptivos.
